I HAD to have one! It took four
years, and a heck of a lot of waiting, searching and worry, but on the
5th of November 2006, Wimballan Geordie, (formally Jack Biker
Conners) arrived in Karrabin, Queensland, to take up residence at our place, and
be our very first stallion, and very first Gypsy
Cob.
Geordie is a red and
white traditional cob, to mature to 14.2 hands high. He was bred in Darlington, UK,
by a Romany Gypsy called Tom Harker. His Sire was a colt by the Frainy Horse
and is mother was a black and white cob whose sire was ‘The speckled
horse’.
He is very heavily built
and feathered, with a mane that reaches a foot under his neck, and a tail that
touches the ground, and this in a colt only 32 months old! He is the only red
and white cob in Australia, and currently the only Gypsy Cob in
Queensland.
His nature is lovely, very laid
back, particularly as he was virtually unhandled before he was brought Down
Under! He adores my 9 year old son, but will follow ANYONE in his paddock. When
we go on weed patrol, he stands over each one of us in turn, lipping our back
and pants, hoping there’s food in our bags! He loves a scratch and is slowly
adapting to Qld heat. We adore him and he is everything we could have hoped for.
NEWS FLASH!! - Geordie has tested
homozygous for the Tobiano gene.
This means he will always produce coloured
foals, even to solid coloured mares!!
